More Waiting....

Hey everyone! It's been quite some time since I wrote in this blog, so I figured I would make another post now. I'm still super excited about getting my acceptance into the Disney College Program, but all this waiting is driving me insane. There was waiting for the applications to come out, waiting for my phone interview, waiting for my acceptance/pending/rejection email or letter, and now there's waiting for my check in date, which happens to be May 23rd! I'm actually leaving for Florida on the 18th, which makes is a little bit better, but that's still 69 days away. I seriously need a time machine, so I can be living in Florida now and meet my awesome d-fam of course. Well, I guess that's really all I have to say... Sorry, this wasn't too exciting!

ACCEPTED!

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've written in this, but I felt like I had a pretty good reason for updating, so here it goes. Yesterday morning at 8:02 I recieved this email:

After waiting for 19 days, I WAS ACCEPTED! It was seriously the best day of my life! I got my top role choice and everything. Things got even better when I later found out that my best friend Emily Fulginiti and future roommate Jessica Keehn also got in! My other future roommate, Emily Quinlan, got in last week. It's so exciting that the four of us all got in and are going to be able to room together!

The four of us chose the arrival date of May 23rd and I'm seriously counting down the days until then. 102 DAYS LEFT! I really hope this semester flys by.

Oh and for everyone who hasn't been accepted: GOOD LUCK AND I HOPE YOU HEAR BACK SOON! I know this is easier said than done, but try not to stress it too much!

I hope everyone has a magical day!

Day 30: Favorite statue, fountain, or eye candy in the parks?

I'm going to have to go with Cinderella's Castle. I know that this probably isn't a very original answer, but it really is my favorite part of visiting Disney World, especially at night when it's all lit up!

Wow, so I guess I'm done with my 30 day challenge. Who knows how often I'll update this thing now... Two people that I know of have already gotten their acceptance e-mails! I can't believe this is happening so soon!

Day 25 and Day 26

Suprise, suprise. I missed another day! I've been really busy with school, which is why I haven't been as focused on Disney and WDWCP related things as usual. It's probably a good thing that I have something to take my mind of the college program anyways because it hasn't even been a week since I had my phone interview...

Okay, now onto the 30 day challenge:

Day 25: Favorite activity outside of the park, but still on Disney property?
I love going to Downtown Disney to look in all the different shops and just hang out. There are lots of cool things to see in Downtown Disney!

Day 26: Favorite Souvenir?
I love buying jewelry from Disney World, especially earrings.

Day 22, Day 23, and Day 24

I've really been slacking on this whole 30 day challenge thing. I have missed the past two days, so I’m going to do those along with today’s entry.

Day 22: Favorite parade?
No matter how hard I think about this, I cannot choose a favorite parade. I really like them all so much…

Day 23: What is the scariest ride?
Hollywood Tower of Terror! It’s always scares me.

Day 24: Favorite face character? (shows their true face, no mask)
I sort of answered this already, but Aladdin.

The Phone Interview

So, I just had my phone interview and I actually think it went really well! Bill was my interviewer and He was super nice and easy to talk to. At first he asked me some general questions and they were mainly about my previous work experiences.

Some of the general questions he asked were:
Why I wanted to do the program.
How I would handle an emergency.
I was with dealing with crowds.
Too describe a time I felt overwhelmed.

For attractions questions he asked:
How comfortable I was giving speaking in front of a large audience.
To give an example of a time I spoke in front of a large audience.

For character attendant questions he asked:
How I would go about closing the line and telling people that they couldn't meet the character.

He asked me a few other questions, but those are the ones that stick out in my head right now. At the end he asked me if I had any questions, so I asked him a question about college credit and also if I could request a work location. I told him that I would love to work on either the Haunted Mansion or the Tower of Terror and he told me he would write it in his notes, but could make any guarantees.

Now, it's time to wait. He said it would take about 3 or 4 weeks to get an answer. It's going to be a long month...

Day 21: Favorite character to see in the park?

I love seeing Aladdin and Jasmine in the park! This was an easy one for me because Aladdin is my FAVORITE Disney movie ever!

My phone interview is tomorrow! I'm super excited and super nervous at the same time. I feel really prepared though, which helps with my nervousness a little. After I do the phone interview there will be nothing left to do except wait... That 3-4 week wait will be the death of me!

Applications and The Web-Based Interview

So, as I'm sure everyone knows already, applications for the WDWCP went up yesterday! I started the application process as soon as I got home from school. The actual application part was exactly like applying for any other job I've ever applied for. It asked about previous jobs experience, which roles I was intrested in, etc.

After I was done filling out the application and watching the e-presentation it was time for the dreaded web interview! Honestly, it wasn't that bad. Most of the advice I had heard from others was true and really helpful. As long as you are consistent with your answers you should be fine. There were a few times that questions were asked more than once, but phrased differently, so it is also important to read carefully.

After I passed the web based interview (which was super exciting!) I called to have my phone interview scheduled. Unfortunately I called at 5:07 and the recruiting offices closed at 5. So I called this morning right at 8:30 when they opened again and scheduled my phone interview for this Saturday at 9:30. I'm so excited! I really think I'm ready for this.

Day 20: Favorite Walt Disney World dessert?

Two words: Creme brulee.

Day 19: What is your least favorite attraction? and APPLICATIONS TODAY?

It's a tie between Stitch's Great Escape and the Hall of Presidents. Stitch's Great Escape makes me sick to my stomach and I've always found the Hall of Presidents to be way too long of a show.

Random thought: I just realized before I wrote this blog, that I am following my own blog lol. How did that even happen?

Also, there has been lots of talk that applications will go up today and I AM FREAKING OUT! This would be amazing, but at the same time I'm terrified not getting accepted!
My winter break ends today and I have class from 10:10 to 3:05, so I will be obsessively checking to see if applications are up between classes. At least class will be something to take my mind off the applications for a while... hopefully...

Well if applications do come out today, I wish everyone good luck on the web interview and with their phone interview!

Day 18: What attraction do you wish they would bring back?

I honestly don't think I've ever been on any of the past attractions that have existed in Disney World, but I am sad about Star Tours closing down. Yes, I know they're not really closing it down as much as they are changing and updating it... but I'm still going to go with Star Tours as my answer to this question.

2 DAYS :) !

Day 17: Favorite restaurant?

I think I've said this in a earlier post, but my favorite restaurant is the Sci-Fi Dine-in Theater.

I feel like my posts are getting shorter and shorter as the days go by. After applications go up in 3 Days, I think I will have a lot to write about though!

Day 16: Favorite snack to grab in the parks?

I don't know if I have a favorite snack to grab in the parks because I like everything so much! However, everytime I visit Disney World I do get one of those mickey mouse shaped ice cream bars with a chocolate shell on the outside and vanilla ice cream on the inside.

4 DAYS!

Day 15: Favorite Walt Disney World Resort?

During my past Disney vacations, I've stayed at four different Disney resorts. To be perfectly honest, my family and I usually do not spend all that much time at the resorts because we are almost always in the parks from open to close everyday we are there.

I've stayed at All-Star Music, All-Star Movies, Caribbean Beach, and Old Key West. Out of these four, Old Key West was the nicest one, but I actually think I'm going to pick a resort that I haven't stayed at before.

My favorite is the Grand Floridian. We have visited this resort many times while on vacation and I absolutely love it. It's always been my dream to stay there while vacationing at Disney!

5 DAYS, 5 DAYS, 5 DAYS!

Day 14: Favorite Animal Kingdom attraction?

My favorite attraction in Animal Kingdom is Dinosaur. I also really like Expedition Everest and It's Tough to be a Bug.

ONLY 6 MORE DAYS UNTIL APPLICATIONS GO UP!

Day 13: Favorite Animal Kingdom area? AND ONE WEEK UNTIL APPLICATIONS!

Animal Kingdom is my least favorite park. It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I like the three other parks so much more than I like this one. My favorite area in the park is Asia.

Oh, and just so everyone knows... THERE'S ONLY ONE WEEK LEFT UNTIL APPLICATIONS COME OUT! This is super exciting, but it also scares me a lot. I really don't know what I would do if I didn't get into the program. I've gotten lots of advice about the web-based interview and the phone interview from people who have done the program before, so hopefully that will help increase my chances of getting in! I'm also going to be really sad if other people I've through facebook group don't get in. Well, I guess I should stop stressing this and start thinking positive thoughts!

Day 12: Favorite Hollywood Studios attraction?

As I've said before, Hollywood Studios is my favorite park, so it's really hard for me to pick my favorite attraction. I love thrill rides so I of course Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Rollercoaster are in the running. But, I also really like Star Tours, the Indiana Jones show, the Great Movie Ride, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, the Studio Backlot Tour, and basically every other ride there... This is going to be tough. I guess I'm going to pick the Tower of Terror, but only because when I went to Disney World for the first time, it was my favorite ride. Now that I'm older I like lots of the other rides in the park too, but if I dwell on that too much, I'll never make a decision. So... Tower of Terror it is!

Roles

I've been changing my mind about roles for a really long time now and with applications only 9 days away, I thought that now would be a good time to really make a decision on which roles I want to apply for. I've heard the more roles you apply for, the more of a chance you have of getting in, but I don't want to choose any roles that I wouldn't want. The one role I really want to stay away from is quick service food and beverage. It's just something that is not for me and similar to working at the concession stand at the movies, which is something I would like to get away from. Okay, so here is the list of roles I am planning on applying for:

1. Attractions: This has been my number one choice since I heard about the WDWCP. I would absolutely love working at the Haunted Mansion, the Tower of Terror, or Pirates of the Caribbean.

2. Merchandise: I think I would really like this job too. It's different from my job at the movies that I have right now, but also a little bit similar in the way that I would have to work a cash register and sometimes deal with long lines.

3. Hospitality: I'm not really sure why but, I have always wanted to work in a hotel. I think I would rather work in one of the parks though, which is why I'm choosing hospitality as my third choice.

So those are my top three roles. I think I'm also going to put down character attendant, main entrance operations, and photopass photographer because I really don't think I would mind having any of those jobs either. I'm really hoping for attractions, but I've heard that's a popular one for people to pick, which probably means it's a little competitive to get. I guess I'm just going to have to do really well on the phone interview and hope for the best!

Well, I think that's enough for this blog. As I mentioned earlier, APPLICATIONS COME OUT IN ONLY 9 DAYS! I can't wait!

-Amanda

Day 11: Favorite Hollywood Studios area?

I've always loved thrill rides, so I'm going to have to go with Sunset Boulevard.

An Embarrassing Moment (Tagged!)

I was tagged by Adam Gorski to share an embarrassing moment on my blog. Oh. there are so many moments to choose from...

The embarrassing moment I'm choosing happened probably when I was about 14 or 15 years old and was at the grocery store with my mom. We were almost done shopping and had a full carriage of food. My mom left the carriage in one aisle and told me to wait there with it, while she went to get something in another aisle. I saw someone I knew from school while I was waiting and walked over to her to say hi. My mom yelled over to me a few minutes later to grab the carriage and bring it to the checkout, so I did. I looked back while walking and noticed that this couple that looked to be a lot older than me and were dressed in all black were following me. They kind of freaked me out, so I started walking faster. I looked back and they also started walking faster. When they caught up to me I was so scared, but all they said was "excuse me, but that's our shopping cart... I think you left yours back in that other aisle." And sure enough they were right. I was mortified...

I think I'll tag Amanda Szakacsi! Hopefully she hasn't been tagged already!

Day 8, Day 9, and Day 10

Okay, so I was in Pittsburgh for the weekend (which was awful, but I won't get into that now) and I was unable to blog while I was there. So I am writing this blog to make up for the days that I missed while I was there. All three days actually relate to Epcot so it sort of works out anyways!

Day 8: Which is your favorite in Epcot, future world or the worlds?
Definitely the worlds! I absolutely love just walking around all the different countries! I may not be old enough to drink around the world, but I do enjoy eating around the world!

Day 9: Favorite attraction in future world?
If future world is considered everything else in Epcot that isn't in the worlds, then there are a lot of attractions I really love to choose from. Soarin' and Test Track are my two favorites and I really don't think I can choose between the two of them. So, I guess I'm picking both!

Day 10: Favorite attraction in the worlds?
I've always been a fan of the Gran Fiesta Tour Staring the Three Caballeros! Mexico is probably my favorite world in the world showcase. My family and I always eat at the San Angel Inn after riding the Gran Fiesta Tour.

Day 7: Favorite attraction in Adventureland?

Pirates of the Caribbean! Not really sure why I love this attraction so much, but I always have!

-Amanda

Thursday, January 6, 2011

Day 6: Favorite attraction in Frontierland?

I'm going to have to go with Splash Mountain! It's my favorite water ride in Disney World.

My friend Emily and I are flying to Pittsburgh tomorrow to visit our good friend Courtney at the University of Pittsburgh. We'll be gone the whole weekend... so there's a chance I will not update my blog until I return. However, we are going to try to make a vlog at some point during the trip, so that should be fun. If you haven't checked out our vlogs yet, you can do so if you click here!

Day 5: Favorite attraction in Liberty Square?

Well, it is currently one in the morning and I'm wide awake thanks to the medium iced coffee I drank from Dunkin Donuts during the 7:25 showing of Tangled, so I figured why not use this time to blog!
So I'm up to day 5 in the 30 day challenge and even though I haven't been doing it for that long I'm pretty proud of myself for keeping up with it! My favorite attraction in Liberty Square is the Haunted Mansion by a landslide. The Hall of Presidents is sort of cool, but way too long to hold my attention for the entire show and I always found the Liberty Square Riverboat to be kind of blahhh. So that leaves the Haunted Mansion! One of my earliest memories from Walt Disney World actually was on this ride. Well, technically not the ride, but the room they put you in before the ride. I was 6 years old and I remember being so confused as to if the walls were stretching upwards or if the floor was moving downwards.

Also, with applications coming up soon, I have been doing crazy amounts of research on the interview process and I've found a lot of blogs very helpful. So I would like to thank everyone for all their tips and advice. Marion's blog about the web-based interview especially helped me out. If you are worried about the web-based interview you should check out what she had to say about it here!

ONLY 15 MORE DAYS UNTIL WE CAN APPLY! This wait is seriously killing me. If waiting to apply is this bad, I can only imagine how bad the wait after applying is...

-Amanda

Day 4: Favorite attraction in Fantasyland?

My favorite attraction in Fantasyland is another easy one. It's Mickey's Philhar Magic. I love how it incorporates so many great Disney movies into one show. This is also my favorite 3D show in all of Disney World.

-Amanda

Monday, January 3, 2011

Day 3: Favorite attraction in Tomorrowland?

Space Mountain is my favorite attraction in Tomorrowland. I think it might have been the first rollercoaster I ever went on as a kid. I loved it then and I still love it now. Wow that was the easiest decision I've made in this 30 day challenge thing so far.

Also, I would just like to state (as anyone reading this probably already knows) that if applications come out on January 20th, there are only 17 more days until we can all apply! This is both exciting and scary at the same time to me. I keep having nightmares that I apply and either fail the web-based interview or get a letter saying that I didn't get in. I'm really hoping that those dreams don't come true...

Day 2: Favorite Land in Magic Kingdom?

Favorite land in Magic Kingdom... this is a tough one for me because I really love them all so much.

I guess it's a toss up between Adventureland and Tomorrowland, but I suppose if I absolutely had to pick... I'd go with Tomorrowland. I love all of the attractions, minus Stitch's Great Escape (that gross burrito smell kind of kills it for me), and I always thought Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe was pretty cool.

Day 1: Favorite Walt Disney World Park?

My favorite Walt Disney World park is Hollywood Studios. It's been my favorite since my very first visit to Disney when I was six years old.

The park has some great shows. I especially love The Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! Hollywood Studios also has my favorite restuarant in it, the Sci-Fi Dine In Theater, and two of my favorite thrill rides in all of Walt Disney World.
